Thaise vrienden Wevelgem is a non-profit organization set up by a group of goodhearted friends in Belgium. Through frequent travel to Thailand they were faced with the often difficult living conditions of Thai people in the North and South of the country. Together they decided to do something about it. The Thai government has issued an emergency decree, which includes a ban of foreigners entering Thailand enforced across the country from March 26 until April 30. Most international flights have been cancelled to minimize the risk of additional imported cases.

Kanoon became a Fund Isaan scholarship student in 2014. She was 18 and studying Science (teacher) in her first year at Surindra Rajabhat University. She wanted to become a Science teacher.
Kanoon lived alone with her mother in Baan Takuk village. Her father passed away a few years before she started her university. Seen her age her mother could not run the family’s rice farm on her own. She rented the farm to other people. This left them with barely any income.

Fund Isaan granted Kwang a scholarship in 2014. She was 19 years old and studying Science Teacher in her first year at Surindra Rajabhat University. She was one of the top students in her class. The duration of her study was five years.
Kwang was from a small village in Nongkanna. Her father suffered a mental breakdown because of their difficulties and live in poverty. Kwang’s mother worked alone to support the entire family. She ran a small street food restaurant selling noodles, rice, curry and one-dish meals. She made about 8,000 THB (230 Euro) per month.
